Job description - Scheduler

Reporting to the director of PMO, the Scheduler shall develop and maintain construction schedules for a program of new and old construction projects while collaborating with the Project Management group to ensure that projects are completed according to contract and project performance goals.

Responsibilities 

  • Create, update and maintain construction schedules
  • Create work breakdown structures
  • Develop Critical Path Method (CPM)
  • Review critical path, cost loading, schedule content
  • Identify relationships, constraints and milestones with project work schedule
  • Perform schedule impact analysis due to project delays
  • QA/QC review of schedule submissions for conformance
  • Prepare reports as needed and directed by Management
  • Attend project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and support the project’s ongoing progression. 
  • Work with the Estimators, Project Manager, Coordinators and Superintendents to develop, update, and maintain the master schedule. 
  • Develop and communicate short term look-ahead schedules to keep the team abreast of upcoming works.
  • Review, monitor, track and report on construction actuals vs forecast. 
  • Maintains, tracks and reports on all financial aspects of the assigned scope of work including forecasts, changes, and progress billings. 
  • Work with the project team to ensure that the project is being built according to approved plans, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable codes and standards. 
  • Prepare quantity take offs, track, forecast and update them as the project progresses.  Work closely with the Coordinators and Superintendents to proactively resolve scheduling conflicts. 
  • Develop and distribute weekly trackers which illustrate the project progress compared to baseline. 
  • Identifies and manages opportunities and risks to achieve the best possible impact on schedule and financial targets. 
  • Organize and maintain project files, records, meeting minutes, progress reports, etc. 
     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • 3-5 years of related experience in the construction industry.
    • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Business-related field
    • Experience working for a General Contractor or Construction Manager, preferred
    • Equivalent experience in project management or preconstruction on large projects will be considered

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, construction scheduling software
    • Experience in using and understanding earned value progress
    • Have demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing and solving problems
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary
    • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position
    • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
    • Ability to understand construction logic and incorporate into a schedule along with milestones and constraints.
    • Ability to understand the design and procurement process as it relates to construction, and incorporate these processes into the project master schedule.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and documents, e.g. Road Construction drawings/plans, sections, elevations, surveys, specifications.
    • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others
    • Capable of anticipating constructability issues in moderate to complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Some travelling to site may be required. Must possess a ‘G’ Licence.
